












I decided to teach English during my practicum and final demo teaching for the SEATeach program. There are three different kinds of lesson plans used in the Philippines: the Brief Lesson Plan (BLP), Semi-Detailed Lesson Plan (SDLP), and Detailed Lesson Plan (DLP). For our practicum, we were told to create a DLP, so I asked my cooperating teacher (CT) for the format they follow. I was a little surprised when she explained the structure to me. The DLP in the Philippines involves discussions between the teacher and the pupils. It resembles a script more. It might require ten or more pages based on my experience. Although their lesson plan is comprehensive, it resembles an SDLP in the Philippines more.

The scientific learning approach was mine. According to my CT, it is a process of learning whereby pupils actively create their own knowledge by doing. Through a variety of practices and exercises, the students will learn. Practices and assignments served as the learning methods. It is similar with the 4As Method ( Activity, Analysis, Abstraction, and Application) in the Philippines.

My lectures were created using the model used by the teachers. But I gave it my own unique spin. My lesson plans were influenced by my pupils' interests and actions. When I taught a hyperactive class, I designed activities that allowed the students to roam around while earning prizes in order to encourage complete participation. Despite the fact that English is not a core subject in Indonesia, SD Lazuardi GCS Ibnu Sina has it in their curriculum, therefore it was simple for me to instruct in English without translating into Bahasa Indonesia. Fortunately, my CT was usually watching me, so occasionally I would ask her for assistance with interpreting, and leading the prayer for the students. I would always ask them how they are feeling, and let them share their thoughts. I would always make sure that the students will be informed of the goals and objectives of the session. Sometimes, I would play dance videos related to the lesson as part of their motivation. I also usually post real pictures instead of graphics so they can get a clear idea of what I am talking about and it is better for the learning of the students with special need. Before the end of the lesson, I ask the students to answer their workbook as part of their assessment. At the end of the session, I ask them what they have learned, and if the enjoyed the lesson.
